Healthy Comfort Foods

Changing your eating habits is already a challenge. But putting a headache, stuffy nose, fever and/or cough on top of it can really make you lose your momentum.

Our BLC members have commiserated on the Message Boards:

"I have been sick for the past week and I know I haven't really been sticking to the healthy foods I should be eating and I've had some sodas."

"I don't have an appetite to eat anything really...just some light food, but veggies and fruits don't sound good to me."

"I don't know what I should be eating because I feel like crap."

Luckily, their fellow members came to the rescue. In fact, there are plenty of "healthy" comfort foods.

"Try smoothies (very soothing)," one BLC member suggested. Smoothies will let you keep up with your four servings of fruit and veggies. (Try blending in carrots along with juicy fruits like apples and berries.)

"I use juice, soups and, of course, lots of fluids," says another. Water is more important when you're ill. So keep drinking.

Most of all, "Try to keep your calories within your limit." That means don't under-eat or overeat, no matter how tempting it is to give up and flop on the couch.

Just remember: colds end, but your new healthy lifestyle is a part of your life for keeps.
