My Diet Basics
.......................................................................................................................................................................................................

There are some important tools on the My Diet section: meal plan, food log and shopping list. The Meal Plan is your suggested food for the day or week based on your Diet Preferences and suggested calorie range.

The Meal Plan vs. the Food Log—What's the Difference?
Think of the Meal Plan as your food "planning" tool for what you should plan to eat. The Meal Plan will always feature Biggest Loser Club-approved foods and meals that follow the plan. The Meal Plan is a guideline for you to follow. You can change the recommendations if you want to, though many members find it easiest to simply use the Meal Plans that are provided each day. Once you settle on a Meal Plan, either by using the one that we create for you, or by making the changes to the Meal Plan to fit your needs, it will be used to generate your shopping list.   Think of the Food Log, on the other hand, as your food "tracking" tool to log what you've actually eaten. The Food Log is where you'll keep an honest tally of the meals and foods you eat each day—of course, the closer you stay to your Meal Plan, the better!

You might look at the Meal Plan as the "what I'll do tomorrow" document, and the Food Log as the one that records "what I did yesterday."

The Biggest Loser diet was developed so that you can "Swap" meals and snacks in such a way that the basic nutrient composition of carbohydrates, fat, sodium, fiber and protein stays within the recommended ranges to help you meet your weight loss goals. Instead of trying to get too caught up in the nutritional details, pay attention to the serving size and total calories when you swap and choose healthy foods that you enjoy. To improve the quality of your diet, make sure that your carbohydrate choices are mostly whole grain and/or high fiber choices.
